Quebec City, Feb. 21, 2024 - Sonia Bélanger, Minister responsible for Seniors and Health, today announced $1,214,800 in funding to support Nova Home Care in its mission to provide palliative home care to Montrealers.

In addition to supporting the organization in its mission, this funding is intended to help it maintain the 24,000 hours of specialized nursing support and respite services offered by its 25-strong team to more than 1,000 people annually, including 550 patients and their caregivers. This is part of the government's drive to widen access to palliative care while improving access to home care. As demand is high, the considerable contribution of organizations like Nova Home Care plays a vital role for Montreal residents.

Quote:

“The mission of Nova Home Care is in line with our goal to develop a better palliative care offering at home. We need all our partners to achieve this. We are counting on the expertise of the organization, which has been active in the Montreal area for many decades. I'd like to thank all Nova's teams and management for their great contribution, which makes a real difference for families.”

“We are very grateful for this financial support, which will enable us to maintain our activities this year. This contribution demonstrates just how integral our expertise, care and services are to optimizing the system. With the growing need for home care, donations from the community will continue to be essential to the development of our programs, which focus on human dignity.”

Anne-Sophie Schlader, Executive Director, Nova Homecare

Highlights:

  • The total funding announced includes $851,800 in financial assistance to the organization to support its mission, and $121,000 to each of the three institutions whose territory is covered by the organization's services - Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) du Centre-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal, CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal and CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal - to cover short-term needs for professional services.

  • It should be noted that the organization's home nursing services are available from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. They complement the services offered by CLSCs, notably for overtime and to cover evening and weekend hours.

  • Nova Home Care is also helping to enhance palliative care practice and skills by providing training and tools to nurses across Quebec. The training is free of charge and accredited by the Faculty of the Université de Montréal.

In 2019, Nova Home Care was privileged to receive a dedicated donation from the Jacques-Bouchard Foundation, whose mission is to promote and support access to palliative home care for adults and children who wish to receive it and whose condition allows for it.

The Nova Home Care team was sad to learn of Caroline Bouchard’s passing in October 2021. On the eve of the first anniversary of her death, we were surprised to learn she had bequeathed $200,000 to our organization. This gesture demonstrates the importance of palliate care for her. We wish to thank her for this generous gift, which will allow us to continue our mission to provide personalized, high-quality and compassionate at-home care to people who are ill or nearing the end of life and the families who support them.

Nova also provides various complementary services to patients, notably wellness services like massages and psychotherapy support. As well, the Jacques-Bouchard Fund enables us to provide caregiver respite and financial support to rent the equipment necessary to care for patients at home.

The entire Nova Home Care team wishes to highlight Caroline Bouchard’s immense philanthropic work to support palliative care. We pay tribute to her life and will continue our mission ensuring the legacy of the Jacques-Bouchard Foundation remains central to our daily activities!
